Mumbai Indians Register Their First Victory In IPL 2025
Mumbai Indians have finally opened their account in IPL 2025. Hardik Pandya and his men registered a dominant win over the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium. MI played their first match at home after two back-to-back losses. They restricted KKR to a low total and then chased it in style. Ashwani Kumar, a debutant fast bowler, managed to take four wickets for the team in blue.
Batting struggles for defending champions
KKR saw the return of Sunil Narine after the veteran missed the last match. Rahane and his team were coming after a big win against the Rajasthan Royals. They lost the toss and were asked to bat.

Wankhede Stadium suits pace bowling. The pitch provides enough bounce and carry. MI bowlers were charging at the opposition batters. Narine struggled to open his account in this match. Trent Boult delivered a superb yorker to send the all-rounder back to the pavilion on a duck. De Kock followed his overseas partner in the very next over. Deepak Chahar took the wicket, and Ashwani Kumar caught the ball.
Mumbai Indians Ashwani Kumar removes the middle order
Ashwani Kumar was introduced in the fourth over of the innings. His first delivery resulted in the wicket of the KKR captain. Rahane was caught in the deep, and his side was reduced to 25 for 3 in 3.1 overs. Deepak Chahar removed Venkatesh Iyer. The left-hander has struggled to get into double figures this season. He has failed to live up to expectations at KKR.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi looked good in the middle but Hardik Pandya shortened his stay on 26. This breakthrough laid a huge platform for Ashwani. He removed Rinku Singh and then got the wicket of impact player Manish Pandey. These two wickets came in his second over in IPL.
Andre Russell’s wicket was a thing of beauty by the 23-year-old. He delivered two short balls to the hard hitter and followed that with a full-length ball. Russell was bowled out, and KKR was reduced to 88 for 8. Ramandeep added 22 runs toward the end and took KKR to a very low total of 116 runs.
Rohit struggles but Rickelton prevails
Rohit Sharma has been an impact sub this season. He opened the innings once again against Ryan Rickelton. Both players were aiming to chase the match as early as possible, but the pitch was providing enough assistance to the bowlers. The first partnership stood for 44 runs.
Rickelton was the aggressor, but Rohit struggled to time the ball. He was eventually out on 13. Russell gave KKR their first breakthrough. Ryan Rickelton had some other plans. He continued his charge against the bowlers, especially spinners. The wicket-keeper smashed 62 runs in 41 balls and remained not out.
Will Jacks was the second player to lose his wicket. Russell took both wickets for KKR. Suryakumar Yadav sealed the match with some sensational hitting. India’s T20 captain smashed 27 runs in just 9 balls. MI chased the target with seven overs to spare. This win means that every team in IPL 2025 has opened their account in the points table.
