Surya Kumar Yadav Takes Charge of The World Champions, India
Surya Kumar Yadav (SKY), the most decorated batsman of T-20 cricket and a stalwart of the Indian team, has taken charge of the world champions. The baton has been passed from one Mumbaikar to another, as Rohit Sharma, who led the Indian team to victory in the recently concluded T20 World Cup, bid farewell to the format, leaving the captaincy role open for a new leader.

Surya Kumar Yadav Trusted, Hardik Released
Hardik Pandya, who was the vice-captain of the Indian team in the World Cup, was considered the front-runner for the role. However, since Gautam Gambhir took charge of the Indian team, things changed in favor of Surya Kumar Yadav. Gambhir, known for his out-of-the-box thinking, was the one who brought SKY to the IPL in the 2014 edition.

Surya Kumar Yadav was soon named the vice-captain of the KKR side, showcasing Gambhir’s belief in his potential to lead. Gambhir’s decision was justified by the statement that they needed a leader who was consistently available for the team. With Hardik, his injuries have always been a concern, so the BCCI remains very attentive to his workload management.

The Dynamic Approach
Surya Kumar Yadav has captained the Mumbai team in both red-ball and white-ball formats and led the Indian team in 7 T20s last year when senior players were rested. His dynamic approach, which separates him from the rest, is well-suited for the fast-paced nature of modern cricket, where scores of 200-250 are considered normal. Surya’s approach and attitude make him an ideal fit for the newly formed Indian team.
Shubham Gill Vice Captain
The BCCI recently announced the squad for the T20 series against Sri Lanka, with Shubman Gill named as SKY’s deputy. Although Gill has not been very impressive in this format, the selectors have decided to stick with him after his good performance as captain in Zimbabwe. Interestingly, Rishabh Pant is also part of the squad but not in a leadership role.
The Hero of IPL, Abhishek Sharma
Abhishek Sharma, the hero of the IPL and centurion of the previous series, could not find a place, nor could Ruturaj Gaikwad, who performed well in the previous series against Zimbabwe. The selectors have decided to stick with Jaiswal and Gill at the top of the order. While SKY has been named captain of the T20 side, he has been dropped from the ODI team for the same tour, possibly indicating that the BCCI is looking at SKY for a single format.
