The Indian Hockey Team Made a Historic Victory Over China
The Indian Hockey Team has made history by becoming one of the most successful teams in the Hero Asian Champions Trophy. India secured a narrow yet decisive 1-0 victory against the hosts, China. This triumph took place at the Moqi Hockey Training Base in Hulunbuir’s China Daur Ethnic Park on Tuesday.
The Indian Hockey Team: Historic Fifth Title Victory
India showcased dominance in the tournament with a record-extending fifth title. They also won this title in 2023, and this victory helped them to defend it successfully. This victory is a testament to India’s resilience and strategic play. They have now become the only team to win the prestigious trophy five times.

In the 51st minute, Jugraj Singh scored the winning goal that made him the hero of the match. His sharp strike towards the bottom right corner was enough to determine the outcome of the game, which thrilled Indian fans. The victory did not come easy as both teams fought fiercely for possession.
Cash Rewards for the Players
In recognition of the team’s incredible performance, Hockey India announced a cash reward of INR 3 lakhs for each player, alongside INR 1.5 lakhs for each support staff member. This underscores the organization’s appreciation for the collective efforts that went into this triumph.

Vivek Sagar Prasad nearly broke the deadlock when he set up Sukhjeet Singh in the circle.
Sukhjeet’s skillful attempt was brilliantly saved by China’s goalkeeper, Wang Weihao. China’s defensive resilience forced India to work hard for every opportunity. The hosts sought to capitalize on quick counterattacks, employing a half-court press strategy that kept India on their toes.
Jugraj Singh’s Decisive Goal Against China
The forward line of India, which is composed of Rajkumar, Sukhjeet, Nilakanta Sharma, and Mohammed Raheel, posed a constant threat to the Chinese defense. Captain Harmanpreet Singh was close to scoring with a penalty corner flick. But it was China who posed a significant threat with their penalty corner attempt. Jiesheng Gao’s powerful shot could not pass Krishan Pathak, India’s goalkeeper who did very well to make that save even if it was the only thing needed to keep the match balanced.

In the second half, India slowed the game’s play and started looking for loopholes in China’s defense through which they could penetrate. However, it wasn’t until the fourth quarter that India made their way through, with just nine minutes remaining on the timer. After some nice passing from Captain Harmanpreet Singh, Jugraj Singh slotted the ball home past a helpless goalkeeper.
India’s Defensive Resilience
China, undeterred, launched a series of counterattacks in search of an equalizer, but India’s defense, led by Jugraj and Harmanpreet, stood firm. In the final minutes, India expertly managed the game, maintaining possession. They ensured there were no further opportunities for China to level the score.
