Abhishek Sharma’s Century Powers India to Reach New Heights
Just a day after Zimbabwe’s shocking victory over the world champions, India avenged their loss with a commanding performance. In the 2nd T20 match, India outclassed Zimbabwe by a whopping margin of 100 runs. Abhishek Sharma’s maiden century for India played a crucial role and helped him to join in the elite club of T20 centurions.
Strong Start for Zimbabwe
In the second T20, Indian captain Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bat first. India made one change to their lineup, bringing in Sai Sudharsan for Khaleel Ahmed, while Zimbabwe’s team remained unchanged. Zimbabwe started well, as Blessing Muzarabani dismissed Indian captain Shubman Gill in the second over for just 2 runs. This put Zimbabwe in a strong position early on. However, this proved to be the calm before the storm.
Abhishek Sharma’s Century and Key Partnerships
Ruturaj Gaikwad joined Abhishek Sharma at the crease for the second wicket. Both batters were under pressure to perform. They took their time initially, and India managed only 36 runs in the powerplay. Post powerplay, both players began to accelerate, and the scoreboard started to tick over rapidly. Abhishek Sharma stood out, attacking every bowler and reaching his century in just 46 balls. He included 8 sixes and 7 fours in his innings. He fell immediately after reaching his hundred in the 14th over.

Sharma’s dismissal brought Rinku Singh to the crease, who had previously been out for a duck in the first game. This time, Rinku impressed everyone. Alongside Gaikwad, he added 87 runs in the last 6 overs, pushing India to a daunting total of 234. Gaikwad remained unbeaten on 77 off 47 balls. Rinku contributed a quickfire 48 off 22 balls, including 5 sixes.

Zimbabwe’s Struggles and India’s Bowling Dominance
Chasing 235, Zimbabwe faced an uphill battle. Mukesh Kumar dismissed Kaia on the third ball of the innings. Zimbabwe’s batters struggled, losing wickets regularly while trying to score quickly. They crumbled to 46/4 within the first 4 overs. Avesh Khan and Mukesh Kumar each took two wickets with the new ball. Zimbabwe’s batting lineup once again failed to cope with the quality of the Indian bowling attack. India bowled them out for 134 in the 19th over. Only Madhevere and Brian managed to contribute significantly with scores of 43 and 26 respectively.

Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Khan stood out among the bowlers, each taking 3 wickets and steering India to an easy victory. This match marked Zimbabwe’s biggest defeat by a margin in T20 cricket, equalling their previous 100-run loss to Australia in 2018.
