Germany women triumph in thrilling penalty shootout at Women’s Euro
Germany became the final team to reach the last four of UEFA Women’s Euro 2025. The Germans defeated France in an epic penalty shootout and will face Spain in the semifinal of the competition. German goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger was the best player on the pitch. She made some crucial saves throughout the 120 minutes and in the penalty shootout to send her team into the last four. It was a heartbreak for the French team that struggled to score a goal past the 10 German players on the field.
Red card, penalty miss and more in the first 90
This was the best tie of the last four stages in women’s Euro 2025. A quality German side was up against the talented French women. France was handed a huge boost within the first 15 minutes of the game. 33-year-old Kathrin-Julia Hendrich was sent off for pulling Bathy’s hair inside the penalty box. The German was sent off for her poor mistake, and this resulted in a penalty. Grace Geyoro stepped up to score the penalty in the 15th minute.

German players had less possession but looked threatening on the counter. It took them 10 minutes to return to the game. Sjoeke Nusken levelled the scoring with a header in the 25th minute. The score remained 1-1 at the end of the first half.

Ann-Katrin Berger made the last save to secure a 6-5 win in the penalty shootout. The 34-year-old has beaten cancer twice, and this was a heroic performance in a crucial game.
Germany to do a Semi-final battle with Spain
The Germans need to pass a bigger test to qualify for the finals. They will take on a star-studded Spanish side in the last four of the competition. Spain booked their place by eliminating the hosts, Switzerland. La Roja scored two goals in the second half to ensure their place in the last four.
Athenea del Castillo opened the scoring after coming off the bench. Claudia Pina doubled the lead just five minutes after scoring the first goal. Spain could have scored another goal, but Alexis Putellas missed the spot kick. This will be their second appearance in the last four of women’s Euros.
