Spain: A much-needed break

Spain began the second half in style. In the 47th minute, Lamine Yamal combined with Nico Williams for the opener. Yamal’s pass found Nico, who coolly placed the shot past Jordan Pickford. England were trailing early in the second half.

The ‘Cold’ Palmer show
Southgate received plenty of criticism for benching Palmer in the group-stage games. Many believed that he deserved a spot in the playing 11. The English manager first removed his captain, Harry Kane, at the hour mark. Kane failed to make an impact on and off the ball. Palmer replaced Mainoo in the 70th minute.
England tried to shift a bit of momentum. Jude Bellingham was getting more touches in the game. His stretched leg found Palmer on the edge of the penalty box. Chelsea’s playmaker coolly slotted the ball past Unai Simon just three minutes after coming in. England were back in the game.
A late win
It looked like the match was heading into extra time. Spain was looking more dangerous in the last phase. Their hard work paid off after one of the substitutes combined with Marc Cucurella to score the winner. Mikel Oyarzabal played as No. 9. His pass found Cucurella on the left flank. Chelsea’s full-back crossed the ball soon after receiving it. Oyarzabal timed his run perfectly and scored the winning goal.

Spain won their first major since the Euro 2012 crown. Lamine Yamal was voted as the best Young Player. Rodri was named the player of the tournament.
