Man United And Spurs move closer to Europa League final
Man United have taken a huge step toward the UEFA Europa League 2024-25 final after a strong showing against Athletic Bilbao at San Mames. Tottenham Hotspur also impressed, defeating Bodo Glimt at home. With only four teams left and the first leg of the semi-finals completed, an all-English final now looks very likely.
Manchester United travelled to Spain for their first leg. This is the same stadium that has been selected to host the final. Ruben Amorim’s men continued their unbeaten streak in Europa. The Red Devils defeated Athletic Bilbao 3-0. Spurs were up against a much lower-ranked team. They also won their match 3-1 in North London.
Man United magic in Spain
This is one of the worst seasons in the history of Manchester United. The Red Devils are in the bottom half of the table. They have no chance of making it to any European place. However, there is still hope, and that is by winning the Europa League. Manchester United’s league form has been miserable, but they are a different team in Europe.

Ruben Amorim’s men had a tough test against Bilbao. They were under a lot of pressure in the early stages, but dealt with it. The game opened, and that gave chance to both teams to score. It was Harry Maguire who scored the first goal. The centre-back has performed his attacking duties well in recent matches. He did some trickery on the right wing. This opened space for a cross.
Man United Take Control in Bilbao
Manuel Ugarte headed the ball at the near post, but the ball only glanced off his head. Casemiro got to the end of that ball at the far post to give his side the lead in the 30th minute. Five minutes later, the match changed in the away team’s favour. Daniel Vivian denied Rasmus Hojlund a clear opportunity by pulling him down in the box. The referee reviewed it on TV and showed a red card to the defender.

Bruno Fernandes scored the penalty to extend the lead. The Portuguese playmaker added his second of the night towards the end of the half. Manuel Ugarte got his second assist of the night. Manchester United took a three-goal lead into the second half. Both teams tried their best but failed to score against the goalkeepers. Amorim’s side will be happy with this lead and hopes to seal the deal early in the second leg.
Three-star Spurs
Tottenham Hotspur could be the second English team in the final. Ange’s men managed a 3-1 win at home against Bodo Glimt. Brennan Johnson took no time to score the game’s opener. Spurs then extended their lead in the 34th minute. James Maddison added himself to the score sheet after getting at the end of Pedro Porro’s pass. Tottenham Hotspur took a two-goal advantage into the second half.
Dominic Solanke added one more, but this time from the penalty spot. Spurs were heading to a 3-0 win butt Ulrik Saltnes scored a late goal to raise the hope of his team. The second leg will be played next week.
