Hardik Pandya: A Rising Star in the World Cup Cricket
Hardik Pandya has always been a cricketer who remains a hot topic in the news. Whether it’s due to his performances, injuries, or personal life, Hardik somehow manages to stay in the limelight.

Hardik Pandya the All – Rounder and the Powerful Hitter

Since his debut in 2016, he has played the role of the missing all-rounder that the Indian team has been searching for over the years. He has consistently stood up for the Indian team on big occasions; his knock in the Champions Trophy final against Pakistan is a prime example.
Hardik was once again the hero for Team India in the recently concluded T20 World Cup. His contributions with both bat and ball were invaluable and helped lead India to victory. However, just before the T20 World Cup, Hardik faced one of the toughest phases of his career. The entire country treated him like a villain, but he had plans to prove them wrong.

Transfer and Tension

During the 2023 ODI World Cup, Hardik got injured during a game against Bangladesh and was ruled out. He was seen sitting in the stands and cheering for the team. After the World Cup, when the IPL drafts were open, and all franchises were actively trying to get the best players, the news suddenly broke that the Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans were discussing Hardik Pandya’s return to MI.
This news was shocking as Hardik was the captain who had led the GT side to the finals in both seasons, winning once and losing the other. The news turned out to be true, and Hardik was traded back to MI in an all-cash deal. The MI fan base initially welcomed Hardik until another piece of news surfaced: Hardik Pandya would replace Rohit Sharma as the captain of MI. Suddenly, the fans who had been supporting MI for a decade and were happy with his return began to see him as a villain who had entered their territory, and worse was to follow.
Hardik The Villain and Wankhede Worries

The IPL started, and MI played their first game in Gujarat. The Gujarat crowd, which had supported him for the past two years, completely booed him, and MI lost to Gujarat. When MI reached Wankhede Stadium for their home game, the Wankhede crowd was also not ready to accept Hardik. There were chants of “Rohit” all around the ground, and Hardik was treated even worse there. MI’s performance was so poor that they were the first team to be eliminated from the league, and Hardik and MI faced severe backlash everywhere.

After the IPL, another news broke out that Hardik, who was married to Israeli model Natasha, was getting separated. Natasha did not attend a single match during the IPL, and both had removed their wedding pictures from their social media accounts. Times were not looking good for Hardik.
Hardik The Hero

Later, the BCCI announced the squad for Team India, and Hardik was named the deputy to Rohit Sharma. Hardik scored 144 runs at an average of 48 and a strike rate of 151. He equally contributed with the ball, taking 11 wickets at an economy rate of 7.60. His best bowling performance came in the final when he took 3/20 against South Africa, leading his team to victory. Suddenly, Hardik was once again the hero of the country. After the victory, Hardik, in tears, gave a statement: “A lot was said by people who don’t even know me one percent.”

Yesterday, when Team India returned home and a felicitation ceremony was conducted at Wankhede Stadium, the same crowd that had booed him throughout the IPL was now cheering for him as their hero. With Rohit Sharma retiring from the T20 format, making Hardik the automatic choice for the captain of T20, the calculated move by MI now seems to make sense.
