Amad Diallo’s scored 3 in comeback win against Southampton

Amad Diallo’s performances have been a rare highlight in Manchester United’s disappointing season. The Red Devils sit in the bottom half of the Premier League table, uncomfortably close to the relegation zone, while Liverpool lead at the top. Erik ten Hag was dismissed after a poor start, and Ruben Amorim has since taken over. Amorim is now working to implement his tactics and guide United through this challenging period.

Recently, the Red Devils have played good matches against big teams. A comeback 2-1 win against Manchester City was followed by a 2-2 draw at Anfield against Liverpool. Last weekend, Man United eliminated Arsenal from the FA Cup. They were up against struggling Southampton in a midweek clash.

Unexpected lead for the Saints

Alejandro Garnacho returned to the starting 11 for the home team. Ruben Amorim named a strong team to get three points from the game. However, the team struggled to show their dominance against fellow strugglers. Southampton created the better chances and tested Andre Onana on three to four occasions. Manchester United’s No. 1 made some good saves, including a double save to deny the opposition.

Southampton’s resilience was paid off towards the end. Manchester United conceded yet another goal from a corner. This time Manuel Ugarte scored an own goal from his back. Amorim’s men have struggled to defend the near post. The Saints took a goal lead into the second half.

Manchester United players created several chances but failed to test the keeper. Some players were underperforming and Amorim had to make some changes.

Amorim made a couple of chances by replacing Hojlund and Ugarte. Collyer and Zirkzee were introduced around the hour mark. Both players had an impact on the game. Zirkzee looked confident on the field.

Amad Diallo’s Winning Goal

Amad Diallo has been Manchester United’s best player this season. He has scored some winning goals and carried the team out of tough situations. Diallo started as a right wing-back and was used as a right forward towards the end.

His first goal came in the 82^nd minute. This was just the start of an epic hat-trick. In the 90^th minute, Christian Eriksen gave a lofted chip that found Amad in a scoring position. Amad found the back of the net and Manchester United led for the first time.

His hat-trick came in the 92^nd minute. Amad became the first player after Cristiano Ronaldo to score a hat-trick. Ronaldo netted three goals against Spurs in 2022. This win moves Manchester United to 12^th place in the league table. Southampton are at the bottom of the league with just six points in 21 games.
