Deepti Sharma guides India to a memorable win against England
Deepti Sharma leads the way as India begins the ODI series with a bang after a successful T20I campaign against England. The side led by Harmanpreet Kaur earned a well-fought victory in the first match at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. Deepti Sharma and Jemimah Rodrigues led their side to a four-wicket win against the hosts. It was an interesting match that saw a momentum shift in both innings. India’s lengthy batting lineup played a key role in their success in this chase.
Kranti Goud rattles the top order
England’s opening pair has struggled to provide them with a good start. This was observed during the T20I series, and Kranti Goud added to their misery. The 21-year-old fast bowler opened her account in the wickets column by bowling out Amy Jones, who surprisingly opened the innings. In her very next over, Goud sent Tammy Beaumont back to the dressing room.
The middle order recovers in challenging conditions
India had a plethora of bowling options, particularly in the spin department. The surface was offering some turn and bounce. Emma Lamb and Nat Sciver-Brunt recovered the innings with a 71-run partnership. However, these two lost their wickets in quick succession. Sneh Rana dismissed these two and left England on 97 for four.

Sophia Dunkley and Alice Davidson Richards batted superbly for the hosts. These two added 106 runs for the fifth wicket. Both batters reached the 50-run mark, with Dunkley ending the match as the highest scorer with 83 runs. Davidson Richards scored her second ODI half-century. Sophie Ecclestone scored a quickfire cameo of 23 to take England to 258 for six in fifty overs. Amanjot Kaur and Shree Charani got the other two wickets.
Decent start but no big score for the top order
India has a different opening pair in 50-over cricket. Pratika Rawal opens along with Smriti Mandhana in this format.
The visitors were scoring a run a ball in the first eight overs. Mandhana was the aggressor but got out on Bell’s ball in the eighth over. Rawal and Harleen looked good for the second wicket. Sciver-Brunt knew that the start had been good and opted to use her strike bowler, Ecclestone. The left bowler bowled a tight line and got the other opener on 36. India were 94 for two in 18.1 overs.

Harleen Deol was looking good, but gave her wicket away in a silly manner. She called for a single and got safely to the other end. Deol lost her concentration and didn’t ground the bat or ever touch her foot. She was run out on 27. Soon, Harmanpreet lost her wicket and India were 124 for four.
Deepti Sharma and Jemimah lead India to victory
Jemimah Rodrigues has looked good with the bat and is growing in confidence. She, along with Deepti, added 90 runs for the fifth wicket. Jemimah was dismissed on 48, but Deepti continued her good form. Richa Ghosh came and tried to score at a good pace. She was also dismissed towards the end. It was Amanjot Kaur who stood at the crease with Deepti and helped India chase this tricky target. Deepti ended the innings not out on 62. India chased the target with four wickets in hand.
