Horror start for the debutant
Uzbeki defender Abdukodir Khusanov made his debut along with attacking player Omar Marmoush. Pep’s side has been dealing with a lot of injuries and he had to use his new signings. Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca named a strong playing 11.
Things didn’t go well for Guardiola’s side. They conceded a goal in the third minute following a defensive error from Khusanov. The 20-year-old tried to head the ball back to Ederson. He was unable to add power to his header. Nicolas Jackson was quick to capitalize and he delivered a cross to Noni Madueke. The young winger scored an open goal to give Chelsea an early lead.
Manchester City Sees Josko Gvardiol Equalize Just Before Half-Time
Man City were the better team on the night. They created more chances and were confident on the ball. Marmoush was a big nuisance for Chelsea players. His runs and confidence to take on defenders was troubling the Blues. He was even denied a goal due to offside.
Josko Gvardiol was another City player who was knocking on Chelsea’s door. The versatile defender was playing as a left-back and made a few good runs. He missed a chance in the 40th minute after putting a one-on-one effort wide off the post. Two minutes later, Gvardiol found the back of the net. Gundogan’s through ball was enough to split Chelsea’s defense. Nunes got at the end of the pass and his shot was saved by the keeper. The deflected ball was easily finished by Gvardiol. Man City were back in the game at half-time.
Haaland & Foden seal three points
Chelsea were trying to hit counter-attacks and City were finding ways to find a winner. Around the 68th-minute mark, the home team created a goal from an unlikely source. Ederson delivered a long ball that was received by Haaland in the attacking half. The Norwegian used his body and made a run. Robert Sanchez came to the edge of the box. Haaland caught him in an awkward position and found the back of the net with a cheeky finish. City were leading with around 22 minutes remaining of normal time.

In the 87th minute, Haaland once again used his strength. The forward held Colwill and beautifully touched the ball in Phil Foden’s path. Foden ran a good length and scored past Sanchez. This was his fifth goal in four games. The goal was also a perfect ending to City’s performance.
This win takes City to fourth in the league table. Chelsea are in sixth place. They have only won one match in the last seven league games.
