India, propelled by stellar performances from Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya, dominated the USA in their T20 World Cup 2024 Group ‘A’ match. This victory, achieved at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Wednesday, ensured India’s spot in the Super 8 stage.
After winning the toss, Rohit Sharma opted to bowl first. The USA had a poor start in the T20 World Cup match against India in New York on Wednesday, with Arshdeep Singh taking two wickets in the first over. Indian bowlers restricted the USA to a low total of 110 for 8 in 20 overs. Singh was outstanding, taking four wickets for just 9 runs, including one on the first ball of the match. Hardik Pandya took 2 wickets, while Axar Patel, the most expensive bowler, took 1 wicket for 25 runs. Jasprit Bumrah, who shined against Pakistan, went wicketless.
India got off to a rocky start, losing both openers with just 10 runs on the board. Kohli was dismissed for a golden duck as Saurabh Netravalkar struck early, leaving India at 1/1 in the first over. Netravalkar then removed skipper Rohit Sharma in his second over, reducing India to 10/2. Rishabh Pant’s dismissal by Ali Khan further compounded India’s struggles.
Alikhan added to India’s woes by dismissing Rishabh Pant, leaving them struggling at 44/3. India caught a break when SKV was dropped in the 13th over with 53 runs still needed from 45 deliveries.
SKY made the most of the let-off, scoring his first half-century of the tournament. The winning runs were scored by Shivam Dube, who remained unbeaten on 29. With this victory, India secured their spot in the tournament’s Super Eight.
The USA can join the Super 8 as runners-up if they beat Ireland in their final group game on Friday. A defeat would open the door for Pakistan or Ireland, who play each other on Sunday, to qualify in their place.
