Indian Team Faces Uphill Battle After Being all out for 46
Indian cricket fans were relieved after Day 1 was completely washed out due to rain at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Conditions improved on Day 2, and the match finally began. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and, surprisingly, elected to bat on a pitch under covers for quite some time, with overcast conditions prevailing.
Indian Batters Failed Miserably:
After their skipper opted to bat first, the Indian batters couldn’t rise to the challenge, and the innings turned into a disaster. Rohit was the first to go, bowled by Southee for just 2 runs. Virat Kohli, batting at No. 3, followed soon after, getting out for a duck. Sarfaraz Ahmed, too, failed to score, and the Kiwi pacers were all over the Indian batters.

India was struggling at 10 for 3 when Rishabh Pant joined Yashasvi Jaiswal. Hopes were pinned on the two left-handers, as both had been saviors for the Indian team before. However, they also couldn’t offer much today. Jaiswal was dismissed for 13 after the partnership had only added 21 more runs. KL Rahul also departed for a duck, leaving India reeling at 33 for 5.
India’s Batting Collapse: Bowled Out for 46
The onus fell on Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, both of whom had been consistent lower-order contributors for India. But just before the lunch break, Jadeja was dismissed for a duck, leaving India at 33 for 6. It was a tough lunch for the Indian team to digest, as 4 of their batters were out for 0.
The post-lunch session didn’t bring any relief for India. Ashwin was out for a golden duck, and Pant, after scoring 20 runs, was also dismissed. The Indian team was bowled out for a mere 46 runs, their third-lowest total in Test history after 36 in Adelaide and 42 at Lord’s.

New Zealand’s bowlers were relentless, with all three seamers sharing the 10 wickets in just 32 overs. Matt Henry took 5 wickets, William O’Rourke claimed 4, and Southee picked up 1 wicket.

New Zealand Batters Provide Steady Start:
After a brilliant bowling performance, the Kiwi batters looked well-prepared for the Indian attack. Devon Conway came out strong, though India dismissed skipper Tom Latham for 15. Conway and Will Young then batted well for the second wicket, taking the score to 142 before Jadeja dismissed Young for 33. Ashwin later dismissed Conway, who fell just short of a century with 91.
At the end of Day 2, New Zealand stood at 180 for 3, with Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell unbeaten on 22 and 14, respectively. The visitors already have a lead of 134 runs, and with three days left, New Zealand looks well-positioned to win this Test match.
