Happy Ending for the Indian Coach Great Rahul Dravid
Barbados was alive with celebration as Team India triumphantly secured the T20 World Cup for the second time. This glorious victory also served as a perfect farewell for Rahul Dravid, the Indian G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time), who concluded his illustrious career in spectacular fashion. Since taking the helm as head coach in 2021, Dravid has been instrumental in the team’s success. As his tenure comes to an end, he steps down, leaving behind an enduring legacy.
Dravid’s World Cup journey has been a tale of persistence and resilience. Participating in three World Cups from 1999 to 2007, he delivered stellar performances but fell short of clinching the trophy. In the 1999 World Cup, he stood out as the tournament’s top scorer, amassing an impressive 461 runs. His leadership faced a stern test in the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies, where despite leading a team brimming with talent, India experienced a shocking early exit in the group stage. Yet, fate had a grander plan for Dravid. Seventeen years later, in the very same region, he finally tasted World Cup glory—not as a player, but as a coach.

Rahul Dravid – The Wall of Indian Cricket
Rahul Dravid, affectionately known as “The Wall” of Indian cricket, has left an indelible mark on the sport, both as a player and a coach. During his illustrious playing career, Dravid amassed 24,177 runs in international cricket, solidifying his reputation as one of the game’s most reliable and technically sound batsmen. His exceptional ability to withstand pressure and craft long, resilient innings earned him the well-deserved nicknames “Mr. Dependable” and “The Wall.”

Dravid embarked on his coaching journey in 2015 with the Indian Under-19 team, where he swiftly showcased his coaching acumen by steering them to notable achievements. Under his astute leadership, the Under-19 team secured the runners-up position in the 2016 World Cup and triumphed in the 2018 edition. Additionally, he assumed responsibility for the India A team, playing a pivotal role in cultivating emerging talent and readying them for the challenges of the senior ranks.

In 2021, Rahul Dravid took on the daunting role of head coach for the senior Indian team, tasked with revitalizing their global standing. Under his stewardship, India reached the finals of the World Test Championship (2021-23) and the 2023 ODI World Cup, only to face defeats at the hands of Australia in both instances. The latter loss was particularly poignant, occurring on home soil where expectations ran high.
Despite consistent performances across all formats, Dravid’s tenure had yet to secure a coveted global title—until the 2024 T20 World Cup provided a final opportunity. This tournament, hosted in Barbados, witnessed the Indian team triumphantly lifting the trophy, fulfilling Dravid’s long-held ambition. It was a storybook conclusion to his coaching career, achieving his ultimate goal on his farewell day. Such a perfect retirement is rare, but Rahul Dravid undoubtedly earned this crowning achievement through his dedication and expertise.
