Punjab Kings Script History: Playoffs After a Decade, Table Toppers Now
Punjab Kings are enjoying an incredible season under Shreyas Iyer. They made it to the playoff stage after 10 seasons and now sit at the top of the table after all their league matches. PBKS won their last encounter against Mumbai to confirm a top-two place in the IPL 2025 standings. This loss for the Mumbai Indians means that they will finish in fourth place in the league table.
Punjab Kings bowlers restrict MI batters
Mumbai were asked to bat at Jaipur. This venue has produced more than 200 runs in the first innings of matches played here after the resumption of the IPL. MI batters made a decent start by posting 45 runs in the first five overs. Marco Jansen removed his South African teammate, Ryan Rickelton, in the last over of the powerplay.
Rohit and Surya tried to build a partnership, but the Indian ODI captain was struggling to score runs at a great pace. Harpreet Brar removed Rohit on 24, and Tilak Verma followed him in the very next over. MI were 88 for three at the end of 11 overs.

Suryakumar Yadav continued his good form with a 57-run knock in 39 deliveries. Will Jacks, Hardik Pandya, and Naman Dhir played cameo knocks to take their side to a respectable total. MI ended their innings on 184. Arshdeep, Jansen, and Vyshak took two wickets each. Brar took one wicket, and Jamieson failed to add a wicket to his name on his PBKS debut.
Arya-Inglis show
MI fell short of a big score, and PBKS were chasing quite an achievable score. The opening duo of Prabhsimran and Priyansh gave a decent start. Prabhsimran struggled for his 13 runs and eventually fell to Bumrah.
This wicket was just the opening for other batters. Josh Inglis was once again promoted ahead of Shreyas Iyer. This move worked as these two added 109 runs for the second in just 59 deliveries. Priyansh Arya scored his second fifty of the tournament and moved past 400 runs in his debut IPL season. The left-hander was caught on Mitchell Santner’s delivery after scoring 62 runs.

Josh Inglis was on a different level for this match. The wicket-keeper batsman scored 73 runs in 42 balls. This was a crucial knock in chasing down a big target. Santner dismissed both the batters. Shreyas Iyer took his team over the line with a 26-run knock. PBKS won the match by seven wickets in hand and nine balls remaining.
Who will Punjab face?
This win for PBKS means that they will finish in the top two. The teams finishing in these two positions become a part of qualifier 1. They have two chances to make it to the final of IPL 2025. PBKS will have the upper hand as they are set to play the qualifier at Chandigarh. Mumbai will play in the eliminator against Gujarat or Bangalore. RCB has a match in hand with LSG. A win will definitely guarantee them a place in the top two. If RCB fails to win, GT will finish in the top two.
