Man United grabbed victory in The First Manchester Derby Test
Man United came out as the winners of the first Manchester Derby of the English Premier League 2024-25 season. Two late goals sealed the deal for the Red Devils against Manchester City by a scoreline of 2-1.
Pep Guardiola’s side are on a poor run of form. The English champions are struggling with just one win in 10 games. This is the worst run for a team under Pep. Ruben Amirom, on the other hand, returned to winning ways as a Man United manager after an inconsistent run in the first few games in England.
Man United and Manchester City Line-ups
Ederson returned to goal after being left out of the team in the last league game. Walker, Dias, Gvardiol, and Nunes formed the back four. Gundogan, Doku, Foden, De Bruyne, and Bernardo Silva started behind Erling Haaland in the attack.

Andre Onana started in goal behind Martinez, Maguire, and De Ligt. Diogo Dalot and Mazraoui started as the wingbacks, with Ugarte and Fernandes in the center. Mason Mount and Diallo led the attack with Hojlund.

Manchester City takes the advantage into half-time
The home team needed a win to get back to momentum. They created better chances in the first 45. This led to a goal in the 36th minute. Josko Gvardiol was at the end of a deflected cross by De Bruyne. The Croatian headed the ball past Onana to give his side the lead.
Mason Mount left the field inside the first 15 minutes of the game. This created more headaches for the new manager.
The Amad show
Manchester United were heading to their third consecutive loss in the league. They tried to put the ball in City’s net but didn’t create enough chances. However, Amad Diallo had some other plans. He has been the best player under the new manager.

Amad had the ball inside the opposition’s penalty box in the 87th minute. Nunez tackled him from behind and gave away a penalty. Bruno took the responsibility and scored past Ederson.
In the 90th minute, Amad showed his class when he reached the end of Lisandro Martinez’s pass. Amad ran behind the back four and got into a one-on-one situation with the opposition keeper. The forward chipped the ball above Ederson and then got to the end of the ball. He helped the ball into the net to give three points to the away side. Man City had very little time to save the game after conceding the second goal.
This win leaves Manchester City and Pep Guardiola in a spot of bother. They have just won one game in the last 11 matches. City are nine points behind leaders Liverpool, who also have a game in hand. Manchester United, on the other hand, are 13 in the table. This win is a big momentum for the team as well as the new manager. They will now take on Spurs in the EFL Cup. Pep’s side travel to Aston Villa this weekend.
