India Made a Thrilling 2-1 Victory Over archrivals Pakistan
India secured a thrilling 2-1 victory against archrival Pakistan in hockey in the much-anticipated Hero Asian Champions Trophy encounter on Saturday. Thus, India finished top on the point table and remained undefeated throughout league events. India’s captain Harmanpreet Singh had two goals (13’, 19′), while Ahmad Nadeem (8’) scored only for Pakistan.

Pakistan Takes Early Lead in a Fast-Paced Start
At first, both teams looked good on the pitch as they lived up to this highly anticipated clash of titans in Asia. This sparked their eagerness to take control right from the beginning of play by entering into opponents’ circles more often. But it was Pakistan that opened the scoring when Nadeem got it in the eighth minute after a well-organized buildup. Hannan Shahid made a beautiful run alongside the middle line, passing to him. Yet he was able to put it away cleanly.
Harmeet Singh Leads India’s Comeback
India responded speedily with a determination to level the score. Captain Harmanpreet Singh drew equal when he converted India’s first penalty corner with a sharp drag flick in the 13th minute. By the end of the first quarter, the two teams were at a 1-1 standstill after a series of back-and-forth action; none could find a way through.
India Takes Control in the Second Quarter.
India maintained their momentum in the second quarter, and it was again Harmanpreet Singh who made the difference once again. In the 19th minute, he scored his second by converting another penalty corner that placed India ahead 2-1. This goal, therefore, placed Pakistan in defensive mode. While India retained ball possession but could not create clear scoring chances due to several turnovers.

There were times when Pakistan displayed their skills too. Sufiyan Khan’s powerful drag flick hit the bar just before halftime when they got themselves a penalty corner. This meant that they went into the break trailing by only one goal to the advantage of India.

Intensity Builds in the Final Quarters
As the third quarter started, India was trying to take control of the match by making precise passes to extend their lead. They were also pushing Pakistan deep into their half. Unfortunately, Sufiyan Khan mis-tackled Araijeet Singh Hundal at the edge of the circle, resulting in another penalty corner for India. However, Pakistan’s defense blocked Harmanpreet’s drag-flick during the penalty corner.
Krishan Pathak’s heroics Seal the Win for India
The last part of the third quarter saw Pakistan increasing their attacking intensity. They earned several penalty corners. But Indian goalkeeper Krishan Pathak managed to deny them an equalizer with a series of remarkable reflexes and composure. As the game entered the final quarter, India held on to its 2-1 lead.

There was high tension in the final quarter as both teams fought for control. India earned some more penalty corners, but Pakistan’s defense was solid.
India Advances to Semi-Finals
